The Battle of Cunaxa 401 BC, Battle Day In The North, Society of Ancients
On Sunday gone, Durham Wargames Group put on an all day event, The Battle of Cunuxa 401 BC, Battle Day In The North, run in affiliation with the Society of Ancients. There were a number of games set out, all with different rules systems such as:
I think you'll find it's Tyneside Wargames Club (not Gateshead) with their own "Great Captain" rules....☺

Thanks for the correction. Now changed to Tyneside Wargames Club, Great Captain Rules. (It was a long day and i did chat with the guys but at the end of the day the name of the club, the rules had slipped my mind)
DeleteI was torn between Durham and the South as I live in Sheffield. The South was a slightly shorter trip! Looks like you also enjoyed a range of rules and scales. Thanks for posting.

ReplyDeleteThanks Duncan. C'est la vie. It would of course have been grand to have you. I'm looking forward to and planning for next year already. It's going to be a difficult one to get a balance for, that is, if that's what we decide to go for.
DeleteAmazing. How did I not know about the Durham Wargames Group when I lived there in the 1990s. Ancient history now. Best wishes from the Antipodes. Still with a Society of Ancients membership though.
ReplyDeleteWow! Durham Wargames Group has been there since the '70's! I have not been a member for all that time(!) as I used to belong to SESWC in Edinburgh.
DeleteIt is interesting to me that pretty much all the rules used were "boutique" in nature (I'd even put DBA in this category.) None of the current, popular rules sets were in evidence (ADLG, Hail Caesar, MeG, Impetus etc.)
ReplyDeleteJust down the way the guys who put on the games chose their rules. BTW, there was a Hail Caesar game pit on and there are pictures of it above. Hope that helps. There are also ADLG, MEG and Impetus players at the club. They just chose not to use those rules on that particular day.
