Clubbing It! Sassanids vs Middle Imperial Romans!

The inability for me to for me find the time this week to write up the Bat Rep for the latest Sassanids vs Middle Imperial Romans has left me a little disappointed. The game was part of some experimentation and included alterations to the stats of the Sassanid Late Clibanarii which would effect the game in a new way which would reflect their use on the battlefields of the 5th/6thCE.

I'm not fully happy with with the Sassanid list as it is written in WAB V.2, AoA V.2. In previous games, the Late Sassanian Clibanarii just weren't able to influence the game in a manner befitting their battlefield role. In truth, I don't think we have solved this at the time of writing.

I'll write a post in a day or two and discuss the problem with the lists, our attempt to solve it and my ideas on how to actually solve things going forward!

In the meantime please enjoy the pictures of the game; and some wonky spears!

  1. It takes time to produce a blog post, especially a 'considered' one—in a 'I would have written a short letter but I did not have the time' kinda way. You have whet our appetites with these wonderful photos so we'll look forward to your description and discussion (all in good time!).
Meanwhile, I am so pleased that you posted the photos; they are loverly! A fine looking game it is/was too.
    Best wishes, James

    1. Thanks James, appreciated mate. My posts are usually longer and in a little more depth. With google no longer (for a few years now) supporting Blogger with the "Following" subscriptions I have a low level anxiety that blogging, long form wargames conversation is slowly becoming a thing of the past. I really hope I'm wrong as there is something deeply unsatisfying about quick social media posts.

  4. I enjoyed these views of the collection in action.
I have most of the WAB books but tend to turn to them for inspiration rather than as a ruleset.

    1. Hi Stephen. It's what the guys at the club play. i like you would prefer to try out more rules but it's what I'm stuck with lol :>)

    2. Yesterday I had my first game in a long time with someone else's choice of rules. It's what we do for love of the little fellows [meaning the figures not other gamers!]. However there are some good rules out there and I get my choice in the solo games I play.

    3. I've never really been a solo player. I don't know why as i have no specific technical objections to solo play.
