My God! Maiwand! Revamped.

I recently had to say "bye bye" to Adobe Photoshop CS2; my old mousepad on my last but one laptop started to give up the ghost. Rather than having to resort to downloading GIMP again (great software but not very intuitive) I splashed out on Photoshop Elements. Not happy about having to pay for it again as I already own Elements and CS 2 on another (steam powered) laptop but cannot for the life of me find old password! Needs must.

In order to test the new version of Elements out I thought I would have a go at revamping some pics which look like they were edited with stand in software.

These are the results:

Second Anglo Afghan War Brits - 66th Berkshire Regiment of Foot

Afghan Tribesmen:
(I really wish I had kept more pics of these guys)

66th Regiment of Foot:

Afghan Tribesmen:

These Afghan Tribesmen were entered into the Salute 2011 painting competition and made it to the finals table. Unfortunately they were trumped by other superb painting and deservedly so. I managed to retain my "Finals Table" card which I have somewhere safe. A proud moment of sorts.

  1. Those are very nice indeed, easily worthy of a place in the final cut. 👍 Especially like Bobby the dog 😀

  2. Very nice. Which ranges of miniatures are all these from? My interest in Victorian era colonial has been suddenly rekindled. Digging out my dormant collection today.
As an aside, as far as software goes, have a look at Infinity Photo and Infinity Design. My wife and I used Photoshop, Illustrator etc for years but the exorbitant subscription made us look elsewhere. Infinity is very good, very similar interface to the Adobe software and cheap as chips 👍

    1. Hi, The SAW Brits are from Artizan Designs and the /afghans are all from the Wargames Foundry range.

I have payed for Elements, which is doing all the things I need at the mo' but will look up Infinity and bookmark for future reference. Elements is a one off payment so it's good for as long as my new laptop lasts - which I've noticed, isn't as long as they used to last a decade back!

    2. Cheers, Artizan figures are generally great, love their stuff.
Infinity is also a one-off payment, for future reference

  3. Very handsome figures indeed.
I am far to cheap and lazy to pay for photo editing software; the free stuff will have to do!

    1. Thanks Gonsalvo- each to their own. Sometimes I just pot them neat but I usually go back and then edit LOL

    2. It's also worth mentioning that Artizan do a range of "Tribesmen" too that are very good.

  4. I love those Foundry Afghans- some of my all time favourite figures. I regret having sold a large collection a few years ago. Lovely brushwork.

    1. Thanks John, yeah me too - I sold a lot of Foundry Afghans just prior to their huge price increases a few years ago. Typical really LOL
