Hastings Demo Huscarls; Whole Unit

Hi,

I managed to get some pics of the whole unit including Harold's base taken on my rather dodgy crumpled background. Apologies for the condition of the background, it's certainly ween better days and I'll be making a new one ASAP. As soon as I've re-supplied by ink jet printer with ink! It's about £30 a pop so maybe it's time I bought a laser printer?

If anyone has any suggestions as to a different type/colour of background I'd love to hear it(?). I'm so used to using a blue background that I'm a bit at sea when it comes to the question of switching(?).

As I have said, the pic included Harold's base, of which I have pics of somewhere on this PC(???) and will post them up here as soon as I've found them!

I'm quite happy with the unit as it has the right sort of animated look that in my imagination the shieldwall at Hastings would have looked in the fits of melee that took place.

Clubbing It! Haggis Rampant and ACW

With the return of Medical Student James over the holidays we decided to abandon for one week the Haggis Rampant campaign and go for a free for all with four players a side. This effectively meant that the Scots/Islemen had for advance into a hail of missile fire and well, get shot to pieces- again! :>)

With the inevitable pincushion ahead of us the four Scots/Islemen players (Stan and my good self), with the exception of the prevaricating Dave and Mick (who cunningly used the excuse that there was a village in their way so they were unable to advance) , marched forward into the English Archers deathray.....erm I mean arrow storm with predicable results! Much fun was had by all. The highlight of the game was probably when Nige (playing the English) got fed up of Jim's (also playing the English!) very technical approach to the game charged him in the flank and rear! Basically the game was a chaotic maul with the Scots coming out much the worse off.

Apologies for the pics being all from my perspective of the game but there simply wasn't enough room for me to manoeuvre around the table to get any other views!

I also got a chance to take a peak at Shaun's ACW collection again at the club Thursday gone and was able to take a few snaps. Not sure what the scenario was or which battle was being partly played out but they do look resplendent:

Complimentary Copies of Dragon Rampant and En Garde! Arrive

A while ago Dan, author of Glutter of Ravens, Dux Bellorum and Lion " I Befuddle Thee" Rampant contacted me and asked if I'd be happy to paint up something for the forthcoming book, Dragon Rampant. I said I'd be more than to help but secretly held minor insecurities having not painted up a Fantasy type mini in many a year. Well over a decade at any rate.

Mr Postman brought me what can only be described as large scale Beastmen. I'm not sure of the manufacturer, I did do a quick Google but came up with nothing. Anyway, they were (old school) GW size so would take a bit of work. I cannot for the life of me remember how long it took to paint the medium sized blighters up but I opted for a six or seven layer technique on the flesh and other large areas. In the end they didn't get a very large sized picture in the book, which is not a problem at all really. I'll pop a couple of pics of the mini's below.

I also received much to my surprise a copy of En Garde! I haven't had much time to read through either of the books though we did play a Festive Season game of Dragon Rampant at the Durham Club which I have to admit was such a great laugh that it had me pining for all the Fantasy miniatures that I had sold over the years! I've been looking at the Ral Partha Europe website with gluttony in my eye!

So, it's many thanks to Dan, Osprey and all the other play testers and contributors that made the production possible. It was certainly worth it and we will no doubt be playing more games at the club in the near future!

Now, where did I put those Elves!?!?
