9thC Norse/Vikings

I really thoroughly enjoyed painting these up. All the shields and banners are hand painted.

Some of the castings would be almost impossible to get hold of nowadays especially in the second unit as they were the first Gripping Beast 'Vikings' to be produced and were sculpted in Milliput! I don't think they really show their age as they have bags of character.

Cheers,
Darrell.

  2. Thanks Andrew. I've still got a lot of the first Saxons around, which amongst many other companies, will be painted up for the Hastings demo game for the Lance and Longbow Society in 2016.

Agincourt next year though I'm yet to be given any instructions as to whether I'm supposed to be painting anything up!!

  4. Lovely 'bright' painting, the colours really bring the figures to life - excellent work.

    1. Thanks, I *think* I'd just bought the Foundry set of browns at the time so that may account for their brightness :>)

  5. Hmm. You've gone and upstaged me by painting better hand-painted shields on these, than I managed to do on my own figures. I shall just have to steal your designs and incorporate them into my own Danelaw raiding force ~ If I ever get them done (and, buy the rules) they might just have to come to Durham and trounce you, sir. You have been warned! ;)

    1. Thanks Simon- some of 'em took hours so I'm very happy that someone has noticed the borders of their respective tunics! :>)

    1. Thanks Dean, they are about to be re-based as I'm doing Hastings at Salute 2016 and although none of these mini's will appear I want the basing to be consistent with my Norman and Saxons too. More of a British feel (though I won't be modelling the rain lol ) :>)
