Vappa, Vapnartak, York Wargames Show, is one of my favourite 'gigs' of the year. It is always packed with top notch traders with great games on display. In other words this show gets the juices flowing for any red blooded wargamer. It has been a few years since I was last there at Vappa and the feeling of the show having moved away from having so many quality games on display a more shopping centred experience was marked. This ins not to say that the demo games were of inferior quality, far from it! They were great. But their numbers seem to have dwindled.
I was not feeling too well so get to socialise as much as I would have liked but I did manage to speak to a couple of former club members from Durham as well as grab old pals Darren and Andy from Gripping Beast for a chat. I managed to get a few quality pictures before my tummy started grumbling (was it something in the cup of tea I bought earlier?) and I had to spend some quite time sitting on my lonesome in the cafeteria hoping for the best! Luckily, the toilets are OK at York Racecoarse! Enough said on this matter!
The pictures are what were the highlights in my opinion and in no way are fully representative of all the games at the show.

Militus Mundi Participation Game- Gripping Beast:
The (10mm) Militus Mundi army lists are all taken from the (28mm) Swordpoint supplements so no need to buy anything extra to play the game if you are already a Swordpoint fan.
Darren showed me a few pieces of the new 10mm Robi Baker sculpts specific to the Militus Mundi game. I have to admit, for a scale I usually avoid, these sculpts unexpectedly held a lot of detail and if you're into playing 10mm games, these come recommended! DeleteThanks for sharing I enjoyed the show and made some good purchases, I was slightly underwhelmed by the games, the most interesting one I saw was the Blitzkrieg early German invasion.

DeleteThe "Arab/Israeli game" was in fact The Raid on Entebbe, wherein Israeli commandos stormed Entebbe airport (in Idi Ami's Unganda) to recover the passengers of a flight hijacked by the PLO. The whole thing was presented by the inimitable Shaun Mclaughlin.
ReplyDeleteI did in fact enquire to one of the players of the game but didn't receive a reply so I just kept on moving. Maybe he didn't hear me or was in the grips of the fighting?
