Hastings Demo Huscarls; Whole Unit

Hi,

I managed to get some pics of the whole unit including Harold's base taken on my rather dodgy crumpled background. Apologies for the condition of the background, it's certainly ween better days and I'll be making a new one ASAP. As soon as I've re-supplied by ink jet printer with ink! It's about £30 a pop so maybe it's time I bought a laser printer?

If anyone has any suggestions as to a different type/colour of background I'd love to hear it(?). I'm so used to using a blue background that I'm a bit at sea when it comes to the question of switching(?).

As I have said, the pic included Harold's base, of which I have pics of somewhere on this PC(???) and will post them up here as soon as I've found them!

I'm quite happy with the unit as it has the right sort of animated look that in my imagination the shieldwall at Hastings would have looked in the fits of melee that took place.

Bye for now.

  1. Hmm. 270th anniversary of the Battle of Culloden this year. Any chance of you fitting in a demo of that battle? LOL! :))

Nice looking unit of beautifully painted mini's.

    2. I'm trying to make 2016 a year of austerity.
Working on two games that I think could work as public participation games, anyway. Musketeers for Shildon and Paintballing for the new Stockton show. Those ruins of mine being used for he paintball course.

  2. Very nice - as for background, you might want to try something like Photoshop; I've been experimenting a bit with Paint.net.

  3. Thanks chaps- appreciated :>)

Dean, I've got Paint.net and find it very difficult to work with. Possibly because I'm not known for being that savvy with technology.

  7. Brilliant work, Darrell. The whole unit, lined up, looks brilliant. Great colours, contrasts and painting.

As for backgrounds - I just got a large sheet of thick back paper from an art shop, and sprayed it light grey using Halfords car undercoat. The grey mutes the light and brings out the colours without washing them out (as a white background can sometimes do), and you get less problems with white balance in the photography. I know that there are loads of alternatives, but something simple like this is cheap and worked for me. Good luck, mate!

    1. Cheers for that Sidney.

Sounds like a good idea to me.... anything to get rid of that awful yellow cast that I'm getting even with the white balance at present. Roll on the day I get my full lighting rig set up!
