Sassanid Javelinmen

These Wargames Foundry Sassanid Javelinmen have been sitting on a shelf waiting for the grass tufts to arrive before being photographed. There's something about the way in which Wargames Foundry sculpts pop out of the moulds that is very pleasing when it comes to painting them up. They are almost always a pleasure to colour in.

I went for slightly muted but colourful tunicstrousers but decided to leave kulāf (or kolāh) an off white colour to bring some unity to the unit.

I'm committed to a display game of The Battle of Dyrrachium 1081 for the Battleground Wargames Show in November this year so I don't know when I'm going to get around to, it but I have to paint up 3 units of 32 mixed spear and bow, 3 x 16 Skirmishing Archers, 2 x 16 Skirmishing Slingers and another 2 x 16 Skirmishing Javelinmen! Ouch!

All the photo's are "clickable" (Right click, "Open in new Tab", Enlarge)

Cheers for now.

Wargames Foundry Medieval Civilians

These Wargames Foundry Medieval Civilians (selected from packs MED 220 and MED 221) were sent to me by a sculptor in exchange for some conversion work I asked him to do on some Italian Wars miniatures, of which there will be much more later.

I have to admit that it was a bit of a struggle to get them done. Firstly, for mental health reasons, it was my first time back at the painting table since August 8th of this year which as anyone who practices a craft of any kind will be able to tell you, continual practice is necessary for the best results. Secondly, I for the first time in my life I noticed the "scale creep" that has happened over the years with 28mm miniatures. Most of my painting over the last two years has been with larger 28's such as Gripping Beast. Footsore, Aventine etc and I did find it more difficult to get the details right on the smaller Perry Foundry sculpts.

Maybe an age thing- more likely an eye sight thing!

My God! Maiwand! Revamped.

I recently had to say "bye bye" to Adobe Photoshop CS2; my old mousepad on my last but one laptop started to give up the ghost. Rather than having to resort to downloading GIMP again (great software but not very intuitive) I splashed out on Photoshop Elements. Not happy about having to pay for it again as I already own Elements and CS 2 on another (steam powered) laptop but cannot for the life of me find old password! Needs must.

In order to test the new version of Elements out I thought I would have a go at revamping some pics which look like they were edited with stand in software.

These are the results:

Second Anglo Afghan War Brits - 66th Berkshire Regiment of Foot

Afghan Tribesmen:
(I really wish I had kept more pics of these guys)

66th Regiment of Foot:

Afghan Tribesmen:

These Afghan Tribesmen were entered into the Salute 2011 painting competition and made it to the finals table. Unfortunately they were trumped by other superb painting and deservedly so. I managed to retain my "Finals Table" card which I have somewhere safe. A proud moment of sorts.
