Today I put the finishing touched to the first four competed 'speed painted' bases of Beja Tribesmen for use with various rule sets but with Up the Nile particular in mind.
Very nice. Are these painted using Hargreaves MAHDIST WARS 1881-1885 book as a guide, or going with your own color ideas. I ordered the book and haven’t gotten it yet, so just wondering.
Thanks JJ. I've got all three of Mark's books and they are a fantastic guide to how to paint for those with experience which is something that is not as common as it ought to be in the hobby. More then anything though, the thing I find really inspirational about his books are the conversion work, especially the scratch built work which is a marvel for someone like me. I've got to find a way of sculpting a 40pdr Armstrong gun and though I have the basic patent drawing I really don't know where to start! :>)
Apparently Company B are planning to release new models including a civilian locomotive … they use S scale track, so size-wise should be ideal … wait to see. It feels like a distant modelling project tbh, since I am right at the beginning of this little adventure.
I had some email exchanges with them last November and they were planning to remaster the range and considering a February release, but I guess they are still working on it.
Yeah, that's the thread I started lol. I'm Atheling :>)
I'm waiting to hear back from Mad Guru to see what's what. If any are available do you want me to put my hand up for you? If so, how many would you requite?
Not as of yet. MG is a busy man so I would think it will take a bit of time. Then he will have to wait for a reply.
There's the chap that used to do all the straight line stuff for 1st Corp but his name, or forum alias escapes me.... he might be worth asking? If I can remember who he is lol
Yeah, I was just looking at them yesterday in fact. Lovely.
Are they doing a set that is particular to the Sudan? Obviously some of the rolling stock they have now is fine but I'm thinking in terms of possibly more Victorian?
Lovely work mate, only 200 more to go!
ReplyDeleteCheers
Matt
LOL At least!
DeleteTop notch vignettes, congrats!
ReplyDeleteThanks Phil, they are based for Up the Nile but the basing would do for many rule sets such as Sharp Practice, Hail Caesar etc

Hi Kevin,
DeleteNo. They are painted by a tried and tested method similar to that which I usually reserve for horses! Seriously. Very much my own method. :>)
Thanks Mr. B:)
DeleteThey are looking great! Colors match very harmoniously.
ReplyDeleteThanks Dmitry.
DeleteSplendid!
ReplyDeleteCheers Jim
DeleteLovely! I hope mine look half as good as these.
ReplyDeleteThinking about Mark Hargreaves’ painting guide, that is a very specific style, and rather too graphic for me.

DeleteI bought the book for a record of Mark’s work, which, as you rightly say, is inspirational.
DeleteYes, the 40pdr … I have a plan for an armoured train, and that would be an authentic and rather cool feature.
An armoured train would be amazing. Have you got a model in mind to start work on?

DeleteThanks for letting me know.do they have a rough release date as of yet JJ?
DeleteI had some email exchanges with them last November and they were planning to remaster the range and considering a February release, but I guess they are still working on it.
DeleteJust thinking out loud but if they don't do another run I wonder if they would be willing to part with the moulds?

DeleteI have enquired re progress with the remastering. Meanwhile, there’s an interesting thread here … seems a handful of 40 pdrs were made to order:

For requite re: require :>)
DeleteAh-ha! Well … I reckon three models would do me. Will you keep the Lead Adventure thread up-to-date with progress?

Email today says they are progressing with test prints, which suggests it’s a 3D printing project. Wait to see.
DeleteThat's good news. I hope it's possible to get one printed to order in the UK.
DeleteI am under the impression they plan to ship product conventionally. Have you seen the current range?

My understanding is that they plan to remaster the entire range, and add a civilian locomotive. This is as much as I know.
DeleteThat's good enough for me. gives me some time to save up some pennies in advance.
DeleteIs this the d=same people who cast the 40pdrs too?
Yes – not cheap! I have no idea who cast the 40pdrs – I thought that was your department? 😉
DeleteLOL. I'm waiting to hear back from someone who has contacted them! LOL
DeleteI'll ask for their email address and see if I can contact them directly. :)
