Gonzaga; A Lot Less Pissed Off! ;>)

EDIT: Since I wrote this article earlier today the Editor of Wargames Soldiers and Strategy has made an apology. I've known him for a number of years and know him to be an honest and straightforward chap I have accepted his apology in full.

I apologise in advance for my rant! A month or so ago, whilst still trying to work within the cramped confines of the small space that I had at my folks house, post relationship break up I was asked if I could provide Wargames Soldiers and Strategy magazine with pics of the Gonzaga Crossing the River Taro vignette painted up by me a few years ago and featured on my Gewalthaufen Blog HERE . It's credited in the mag as belonging to the collection of Kevin Lowth- which of course it does not as it resides in my wargames cabinet!!

Surely it doesn't take too much of an effort for an editor of a wargames magazine to take note of who it is that has contributed to an issue and credit them with a small note next to the pic? I make a living out of painting and for me that is an essential part of the deal. Lets face it, without the painters out there who make the contributions (for free in my case!) there would not be a wargames media to speak of at all.

It has not just happened the once either.

Purely for my own satisfaction, here are the pics again:

Bye for now.

  1. It's a lovely piece, Darrell. The water is super! Actually it's all pretty super.

    1. Thanks Simon- I was going to do apiece on how I put the thing together for Bloggers Quarterly but then events outside of my control took over last year. I'll probably do a piece on another vignette that I'm painting up for the Hastings demo.

  3. It is a spectacularly good piece, and very evocative of the battle. I'm a bit surprised at the folks at WSS who seemed to be pretty switched on about these things. A bit late, but you should get an editors note next issue. Did you give them a nudge?

    1. Guy wrote me an apology earlier so all is well that ends well.

Very happy to accept his apology, I've known him for many years and he is a lovely bloke. something lost in translation me thinks when it came to the credits.

  4. Who's Kevin Lowth anyhow? (out of genuine interest)
You've a right to be pissed off, and I would expect to see WSS make an amendment on the SD forum at least (since they've got accounts, to promote their survey) to correct this error.
This isn't the first time I've heard of iffy things from WSS, to be honest.
Well, that's my little rant. Roy

    2. Thanks for the info. I obviously don't have a copy of the magazine (I've stopped buying any of the gaming press, to be honest).

  5. Remember that most people are here to make you feel gifted. I would send a condescending email to WSS explaining the error of their ways and asking for a correction and some free advertising. In that way they can negotiate you back to only a correction and you still win
Oh and it is a truly brilliant piece

  6. Been there done that ! Back in the day it happend a lot more than it does now. I've supplied review stuff time and time again that never gets reviewed- and I pay for my advertising so I don't find this at all unusual- its galling all the same.
Don't lose any sleep over it just a bump in the road...
    Nice Vignette BTW

    1. It was more the culmination of this happening to me again and again over the years. I've had my stuff published in rule books without a mention which was particularly galling.

You're right though, onward and upward :>)

    1. Yes, I'm happy with the apology. As I said earlier, it was really the culmination of this happening to me again and again over the years.

I have to admit to feeling a little sheepish about it now.
