The first thing to do was to choose a colour scheme. I opted for a very simple red and green as they are complimentary to one another. It was also crucial to go with the red as the LBMS Transfers I had chosen were a particular red and I wanted to get match actual hue of the transfer to create a bit of harmony on the miniatures.
I was in two minds at how to go about painting up the harness and
I tend to start my painting with quite a dark base as this gives plenty of scope to layer up. If one starts too light it can be difficult to alter without applying another base coat which you want to avoid if you can as the more paint one adds, the more detail you will obscure. The VMC Black Green was mixed with approximately 40/60 with the VMC Bright Cammo Green and painted on the levels of the miniature which I imagined would get the mostly catch the light if the miniature was a real human being. VMC Pastel Green was added to the mix and painted and a very thin line was painted on both sides of the harness.
The colours are all layered in three to four layers depending on the size and contours of the part of the miniature in question.
Looking great so far :) l really like the color scheme despite i’d prefer more natural brown shades for harness, but in this case the colors you’ve opted work better. Good job!
ReplyDeleteThanks Dmitry. They have moved on quite dramatically from the point you see them on the blog. Half are completed and the rest are very near completion finally! :>)
DeleteI'll post up the pics of the finished unit when they are properly based.
Only another seven large units of infantry to do and that's not counting skirmishers!! LOL
These are some warm and glowing colors!
ReplyDeleteAnd beautiful miniatures. Thanks fir sharing
Thanks Ratmaul. They are finished but I'm just waiting until I get the time to take some pictures and do stage three- I'll amalgamate all three of the Painting Justinian Byzantine Heavy Infantryman Step By Step's and get them out on the internet proper via Facebook etc as they might be useful to some folk.
